SPCA’s Nelson Centre was first established in 1896. We are lucky enough to be situated on 10 acres of land close to Nelson city, and our facilities are testament to the incredible support we receive from our community. We have seven members of staff here, with various areas of interest and expertise. We also have three warranted Animal Welfare Inspectors who cover a vast area between Marlborough, Golden Bay, Springs Junction and the West Coast.
The Nelson Centre has a large group of dedicated volunteers who do a range of jobs: cleaning (of course!), dog walking and training, cat care, paperwork, gardening, fostering, fund-raising and whatever else we ask of them! We are extremely lucky to have such a great team of volunteers and supporters.
We care for around 1800 animals each year, mostly cats and kittens. We also have a few resident birds and farm animals who cannot be rehomed for one reason or another, and these contribute to our Centre being a popular destination for families and community groups.
We have a small retail shop at the Centre which sells pet care, training and food products.
